Some Random E-Mail Comments for San Diego Lock & Safe™
By V/R ENC (SW) F. (Maritime Civil Affairs Squadron, IB)
"...I got the combination changed and the lock works like a champ. I appreciate all your help, and a special thanks to Bill. I will pass on your excellent service and use you in the future for all our locksmith needs..."
By J.C. (Rochester Hills, MI)
"...Hello Kim and Bill- I got the ignition today and it installed in less than 20 minutes!!! Thank you so much for providing such great service!! "Courtesy, Professionalism, Timeliness and Price" couldn't be more accurate. You'll definitely be getting a plug from me on the Focus forums (where I first, skeptically, heard about you). Keep up the good work! Thanks..."
By J.S. (San Diego)
"...I am very impressed with San Diego Lock & Safe. For the last few years I've thought customer service was just about dead - it's so hard to find decent service now but these guys have renewed my faith. I was very impressed with them the entire way through this issue. Not only were they very helpful and flexible (willing to sell us the part so we could do it ourselves) but they also instilled confidence - I felt that we were dealing with a very honest and fair company. I strongly recommend them and if we ever need a locksmith, San Diego Lock & Safe is the first (and only) place we will take our business..."
By C.S. (Clairemont)
"...Thanks for the excellent service yesterday. We appreciate Bill's help rekeying the locks at our new EmbroidMe showroom on Balboa Ave. You folks run a first class operation -- website info, dispatch operation & topshelf locksmithing services. I'm impressed!..."
By L.F. (La Jolla)
"...Kim - What a great experience... your company could teach the rest of the world about customer service! Appreciate you keeping me posted on the appointment... very impressive company with some of the nicest people I have ever met!..."
By J. P. (San Diego)
"...I just wanted to say that the service I received last night with my truck was outstanding. The locksmith was very nice and quick about his work. He even gave me a jump when the battery died trying to start it..."
By S. M. (Pacific Beach)
"...Thanks so much for being so professional! Your guy was awesome! Even tho' it was pitch dark, and he had to crawl around in my VERY messy car to make keys, he did it, cracking jokes the whole time. How he saw what he was doing I have NO idea, but he got me my keys in a flash, and at a lower price than I got elsewhere, not a lot lower, but lower! ;) Thanks again!..."
By A. A. (Rancho Penasquitos)
"...Just a quick note to say thanks for the rekey. I had no idea we had different keys, thought a key is a key. :) Your guy swapped out the innards and make everything work on one key and he didn't charge us for the innards! He said it took only a second longer, and he had extras on hand this time. I hope that's true, but I appreciate it. New houses are enough hassle, you guys helped smooth the experience. Thanks!..."
By P. P. (El Cajon)
"...Can you let Bill know that he did an amazing job finding that supposedly "unfindable" antique lock for me? You have no idea how many people told me I was SOL. And the price was awesome! Thanks again!..."
By J. J. (Vista)
"...Thank you so much for handling the locks for us yesterday. Your tech was there on time, prepared to do the work, called to confirm he could start and was sensitive to the situation. This helped tremendously and I really appreciated the help.

Blog Mentions for San Diego Lock & Safe™
Absolutely Delightful Blog - "Ford Focus Ignition Cylinder Sucks" (San Diego)
"...J came across San Diego Lock and Safe, which of all things lists Ford Focus Ignitions Replaced (A Specialty!) right on their front page! They want to charge $245 if your lock is completely jammed, or about $50 less if you can turn the key, as it makes removing the cylinder easy. Not cheap, but a heck of a lot better than $400 for another crappy part at the dealer. They also are willing to sell you a cylinder to install yourself, and if you email them digital pictures of your keys they will key the new cylinder to work with the current keys. If you are having trouble finding a locksmith in your area, I'm sure these guys would be happy to ship the part anywhere. They were very nice on the phone, helpful, and shipped the part out promptly. I'd definitely recommend them...."
Click HERE to read the entire Blog Post by this customer, which is extremely informative about the model year 2000 through part of 2004 Ford Focus Ignition issues.
A short synopsis of what the above blog entry is referring to:
Ford Focus, model year 2000 through part of 2004 have an installed ignition issue. Thousands of owners have been affected, however Ford does not consider it a "safety issue" and have thus far refused to issue a recall.
The problem with the factory installed ignitions, in a nutshell, is that the tumblers (actually "wafers" in a Focus), and the poor quality pot metal used within the Factory Installed ignitions itself, both interact to begin to shed metal shavings (burrs) over time. This is caused by the simple in and out of the key, the poor design, the cheap metal, and scraping against each other, over and over again. This clogs the ignition with tons of tiny metal shavings, which then wedge themselves into all the moving parts.
Some symptoms to watch for include:
¤ Increasing difficulty in turning the ignition key.
¤ Key feeling "dirty" or "gooey" when inserting or removing.
¤ Ignition "Sticking."
¤ Key getting "locked" into the "On" or "Accessory" position.
¤ Unable to remove key at all.
Once stuck, some online sources suggest hitting the key with a mallet or something else hard until the key can be turned again. We do NOT suggest this. There are also MANY suggestions to put WD40 into the ignition to try to free the key. We do NOT suggest this for ANY lock, but particularly in this situation. If you have read the description of the issue above, you'll see that adding WD40 into the mix will only gum up the works worse. :) You can add to the damage already done by following some of these "fixes," potentially adding to the cost of the repair.
If you're having this problem, please visit the Ford Focus Ignition page for more information on Ford Focus Ignitions, and ways we can help.

Nicest folks I've ever met.
By Yahoo! Reviewer - June 14, 2005
