| Safe & Vault Services Rate Sheet |
Please call for details on services* not quoted below, or fill in the quote request form at the bottom of the listed rates. We'll get back to you as quickly as we can, and be happy to answer any questions.
*Please note, at this time we do not sell or move safes. Our recommendation: While we're happy to offer advice on safe sales, or to order for you, for more immediate local sales and safe moving, we're happy to recommend either John Chaco at John's Lock & Safe Service, with 20 years in the safe/lock industry - Phone: 619-823-0073. Alternately, we are also happy to recommend SafeTrends (SafeTrends now also offers safe moving as well!). Both are excellent, knowledgeable, local, licensed Safe Company's. They're good guys! |

| Short non-Jargon Glossary |
- "Manipulate to Open": Just like you see in the movies - Stocking cap, black clothing, dim lighting, fingers working the dial gently, ear to the safe, maybe even a stethoscope, guy nicknamed "Ricky the Rat" nervously standing lookout... Err... OK, maybe it's really just a safe tech, manipulating the internal dials and rings to open the safe in a non-destructive manner, by touch and skill alone. But you have to admit, the first description sounds MUCH more exciting, right? :)
- "Drill to Open": Just like it sounds. This is a destructive method of opening safes which are "stuck," or to which the combination has been lost, and on which manipulation is not possible, or has failed. In most cases (not all), the safe is restorable to its original specifications after a drill to open. If possible, and requested by the client (you), the safe can be repaired for an additional charge. If we do have to drill your safe, please be assured that it will be done as expediently as possible, in a discrete and professional manner, and always using the correct tools and knowledge acquired though years of training, teaching, and experience.
- "Repair After Drill": Using specially designed, hardened steel plugs, many drilled safes can be repaired back to original specifications. The holes drilled to gain entry (sometimes more than one, depending on the safe, and the situation) are filled with these plugs, which are then welded into place, cut off level, smoothed over, and repainted. In most cases, a repaired safe actually has a higher anti-drilling integrity than never drilled safes. For this reason, previously drilled & professionally repaired safes are charged at higher rates for opening.
- "Drill Rig": An impressive looking contraption that attaches like a spider to the safe which is to be drilled. This contraption holds the drill, exerting minute pressure in increments, forcing a drill bit, or series of drill bits, through the hardened steel case on the safe.
- "Safe Ratings": See short explanations at the bottom of the page.
- "Time to Open Rating": A generalized, "manufacturers estimate" of the time required to drill out any given safe lock. As in any generalized description, this can vary wildly in reality. For your convenience, and to assist you in scheduling your time appropriately, you will be given a basic (but not guaranteed) time frame for the work to be completed at the time any appointment is made. If, at any time, the safe is taking longer to open than expected, and a return visit is required to complete the work, there will be no additional service or trip charges.
- "GSA Rated": A series of high security, specialized, government certified safe locks, door locks, and vault locks.

Safe servicing is frequently overlooked by many safe owners. Every day, folks will dial open their safe, never thinking about the multiple precision mechanism(s) inside their safe that allow the safe to lock and unlock with unfailing and monotonous regularity. Sometimes a safe will give you a non-verbal "head's up's" (just "feels" odd), or an electronic warning (keypad safe warning messages) about looming problems. Many times, however, there will be no warning whatsoever.
Depending on the frequency of its use, a safe should be fully "serviced" at minimum every one, or at maximum, every two years. Servicing includes the following:
- Completely disassemble the combination lock.
- Examine, clean, and adjust all parts.
- Repair or replace any small parts that require maintenance (Large mechanism failures will result in a quote to repair / replace).
- Lubricate only the parts that require lubrication, with the correct lubricant. (This one may sound like a no-brainer, but you'd be surprised at what we run into on a daily basis...)
- Check relockers. Adjust if necessary.
- Check boltwork for free movement.
- Reassemble and check for correct functioning and free movement.
- ***Add a Combination Change available at a discounted rate of $20.00 (with purchase of an Annual Safe Service).

Labels Used On Burglary Safes
These safes are designed to protect your valuables ( money, jewelry, etc.). As a rule they offer very little protection against fire. Burglary safes are rated on how long they will be able to withstand an attack using power tools and in some cases cutting torches and high explosives.
- B rate - Minimum, low grade, hardware / department store type portable safe. This rating simply stated means only that your safe is equipped with a regular grade combination lock and some type of external relocking device. Both the door and the body are 1/2" steel. Most are very small safes that can be easily carried off if they aren't bolted down. It is not recommend that valuables be left in these safes overnight.
- C rate - A safe with a 1/2" thick body and a 1" thick door.
- E rate - A safe with a 1" thick body and a 1 1/2" thick door.
- TL 15 - A safe required to weigh at least 750 pounds and resist expert attack using power tools for a net working time of 15 minutes.
- TL 30 - A safe required to weigh at least 750 pounds and resist expert attack using power tools for a net working time of 30 minutes.
- TRTL 15 / TRTL 30 - Same as above but also must resist expert attack by a cutting torch.
- TRTL60 - A safe required to weigh at least 750 pounds and be able to resist expert attack by both power tools and cutting torch for a net working time of 60 minutes

When calling around for prices, make sure you find a locksmith / safe technician that is currently licensed in good standing to do your work for you - NOT a contractors license, a locksmith license. California requires one by law. A Contractors license, while a good thing to have, and required only as an adjunct to locksmith jobs that bill over $500, it is NOT a replacement for, a locksmith license.
Locksmiths are required by state law to post their locksmith license number on all advertising and invoices, etc. They are required by law to carry the embossed pocket version of their locksmith license issued by the State of California when performing any locksmith related jobs, and to present it upon demand. They are also required by law to give you the number if you ask for it over the phone, by mail, or by e-mail. There is a link on most pages of our website that you can use on your own to verify any state required locksmith license and its current standing. (*Each instance of the word "license" in this paragraph is also linked to the state verification site. :)
Remember, locksmiths / safe technicians are the ones that you entrust the safety and security of your home, your business, and your vehicles to. Isn't it best to hire one that has undergone the state requirements for a nationwide criminal background check, fingerprinting against the Department of Justice database and the FBI, and been issued a license only if all of the above came back clear?
