Not all "Do Not Duplicate" keys are proprietary. Often keys that say "Do Not Duplicate" are just standard common keys and can be duplicated at automated key duplication kiosks and local hardware stores, swap meets, postal services, or anywhere else key duplication is offered, including some local locksmith shops.

 

Schlage Primus CP/XP keys are proprietary to, and can only be duplicated by, the issuing Schlage Primus registered locksmith.  

Schlage Primus locks have an added "side-bar" incorporated into the lock cylinder that requires a special side bar "milling" into the side of the key blank. Each dealer is assigned their own side milling, making the keys unique to each particular registered locksmith. The side bar means additional security to the lock, requiring the proper key cuts, as well as the proper side milling, to operate the lock, making the lock virtually un-pickable.

 

Because of the individual side milling assignment within the Primus key, even bringing a Primus key to an authorized dealer for an attempted key duplication would result in failure as the Primus key side milling assigned to each locksmith would not match your Primus key.
